Ring Hike of the 5 Lakes of Stura Valley – Italy

Ring Hike of the 5 Lakes of Stura Valley – Italy

My mum in law came over from London, so naturally we gave her a warm (and a bit tiring) welcome taking her on a hike with us. This beautiful route starts just before the Colle della Maddalena – at the border between Italy and France – in Stura Valley.

From the parking lot the path in unmarked, so we have to scramble up to find a trail in the larch wood that leads us towards the Pra di Bals pass – 2,248 m. After descending into the opposite valley near a shepherd hut we join the now marked path which takes us to the lower lake of Roburent – 2,330 m – then to the median – 2,355 m – and finally to the superior lake of Roburent – 2,428 m – the best one of the whole trip and listed amongst the top ones in Italy. Once we reach the Roburent pass we descend towards the fourth lake – the Lac de l’ Oronaye 2,411 m – to return to the Colle della Maddalena. We continue the route on the opposite side of the state road to flank the fifth lake, Lago della Maddalena, before closing the ring.
